1929 Ford Model A Tudor
HIGHLIGHTS
· Fully restored by Dwayne Bayerkohler, a Twin Cities Model A Ford Club member, who won awards on a national level for his work.
· Owner purchased car in 2002. At the time, it had only 500 miles on the odometer. Owner since added about 12K miles. Oil every 500 miles. The car has been run exclusively on non-oxygenated gasoline. Everything works on this car, even the vacuum powered windshield wipers.
For 23 years now, this car has been a thoroughly reliable driver, that still shows so well that it has invited to the prestigious 10,000 Lakes Concours D'Elegance.
· Drivers Seat leg room:
· Owner is 6' 3" tall. the popular accessory drivers seat extenders, to provide additional leg room, for comfortable driving. For me, this has been the most important accessory for the car.
· Safety additions/considerations
· Front and rear seat belts
· Turn signals
· A second taillight added
· An LED rear window brake light that spells out S-T-O-P
· • LED bulbs in headlights and taillights
· • An engine mounted fuse block
· • A new horn
· • No back doors. The Tudor back seat is spacious. There is a lot of peace of mind he the road with a back seat full of kids, knowing that there are no back doors that m fly open.
· Brakes:
· The 4 wheel mechanical brakes were renewed by master Model A mechanic Mike Sweeney in May 2013.
· They continue to work well. The parking brake is properly adjusted and holds the car well.
· The clutch works well and has never given any trouble, or needed any adjusting. The 3 speed transmission has never given any trouble, and shifts well.
Tires-Steering – handling:
· Brand new tires and tubes were installed in June 2024. They are from Coker, and they are ste radials, rather than bias ply. I took delivery at BTTF, and I had the tires professionally mounte Samaritan Tire, in Edina. The front-end toe-in has been set at the annual Club tune-up clinic, and it is correct.
· This car now has the popular shortened pitman arm, for easier steering and tighter turning radius.
· The 1929 Modal A's all feature the 7-tooth steering sector. All these 7-tooth steering sectors eventually develop some "play" in the steering wheel while at rest, and this car is no exception. But this does not affect steering or handling in the least. The car steers well and there is no meandering.
Electrical:
· The car retains its 6-volt positive ground system. However, it now has an alternator, rather than a generator. A fuse block has been added. It has never blown a fuse.
· The distributor uses the modern-style points.
· All lights are now LED.
Cooling:
· The car has a 'leakless' water pump. The radiator has never given any trouble. The car has never overheated. The radiator cap is fitted with a Moto-Meter indicator. The car has the two-blade fan.
Kari-Keen Trunk/Storage:
· The car has a fully restored, all-steel, 'Kari-Keen' accessory trunk. The trunk is designed to follow the r contour of the car body, and it also has the bracket for the rear mounted spare tire. The body of a trunk is hinged at the base, and it has hinge pins, that allow it to tip all the way down, to convert o an open bed, like a small pick-up bed, for hauling larger items. The car also has the proper rear bumper extenders, to fully protect the trunk.
Fun accessory Horns
· And for a splash of added color, the trunk is covered with vintage luggage labels, from h across the U.S. and around the world. There is also ample storage under the back seat cushion, as well as in the body cavity behind the back seat.
· In addition to the original equipment Sparton 'aaoogah' horn, this car also has an accessory 'Aermore' exhaust whistle and cut-out (mounted at the end of the exhaust pipe, sounds like a train) and an acoustic 'Koo-Koo' horn (mounted on the firewall; sounds like a cuckoo clock).
· In addition to being a thoroughly reliable driver, this car still shows so well that it was invited to participate in the prestigious 10,000 Lakes Concours D'Elegance, in Excelsior, on Lake Minnetonka. is a vetted, invitation only event, reserved for the finest cars.
